ROCKWALL/HEATH, TX (Aug. 27, 2025) – On Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at approximately 4:40pm, the Heath Department of Public Safety responded to the parking lot of Rockwall Heath High School, regarding an unconscious infant that was left in a vehicle. The infant was deceased and it is believed that the child was left in the vehicle for an undetermined amount of time while parked at a residence in Rockwall.
After a thorough investigation, detectives obtained a warrant for the arrest of one of the child’s caregivers, identified as 36-year-old Camerone Leichman. Late Tuesday evening, Leichman was booked into the Rockwall County Detention Center and charged with Injury to a Child, a second-degree felony. At the time of this release, bond has not yet been set.
Investigators believe that Leichman, who had recently become a caregiver for the 6-month-old female child, failed to drop the infant off at a local daycare after taking his common-law wife to work at Rockwall-Heath High School. The child is believed to have remained inside the vehicle for several hours while it was parked at their residence in the 100 block of Sunfish Road. When Leichman returned to pick up his common-law wife from the school, the child was found unresponsive in the back seat. Medics arrived but determined the infant was deceased.
The Rockwall Police Department is the lead agency for this incident, which remains under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Division.
Submitted press release, Rockwall Police Department.
