(Rockwall ISD) April 23, 2012 – Both Rockwall High School and Rockwall-Heath High School were represented by student athletes in the Region II AAAA golf tournaments this week.
The Rockwall High School boys team competed at Waterchase Golf Club in Arlington, Texas on April 16-17 where they earned a 3rd place finish narrowly missing 2nd place by 4 strokes which would have qualified them for the state tournament in Austin.
The Yellowjacket golfers shot a two-day total of 619. Players were Trey Manis (78-79), Christian Rang (72-80), Dylan Yarbrough (73-79), Chad Taylor (80-83) and Nick Ziebell (87-78).
The girl’s regional tournament was held at the Mansfield National Golf Club in Mansfield, Texas on April 18-19. The Rockwall High School girls made their fourth straight appearance at the tournament finishing in 3rd place. The Lady Yellowjacket golfers scored a two-day total of 676. Although they scored better than the entire field of golfers on Thursday, they fell just short of 2nd place by 6 strokes. Competing for the RHS girls were Hayley Bingham (80-81), Brittany Stansbury (84-79), Cadie Gaubatz (87-80), Shelby Vaughan (92-93), Kaitlyn Bingham (92-96) and alternate Katie Lamond.
Rockwall-Heath High School was proud to have an individual medalist from the Lady Hawk team advance to the regional competition as well. Jessie Goodwin qualified for the tournament by scoring as the 2nd best medalist, excluding competitors on advancing teams, in the district tournament. Jessie scored a two-day total of 168 at the Regional competition with matching rounds of 84.
