How I Met My Mate | When Love is Patient (and Persistant): Charles and Tamika Williams

ROCKWALL COUNTY, TX (Feb. 7, 2026) Charles and I met in July 2003 at his cousin’s 30th birthday party. His cousin was my niece by marriage. And I attended the party with my ex-husband (as friends) and Charles attended the party with his stepfather. When we met, there was instant chemistry. He told me that we were going to be together. I wasn’t so sure about that, but he was cute and I was single so I gave him my phone number.

We became friends. We casually dated for a little bit, but we were really just friends. He helped me paint my living room. He was my plus 1 at my company’s dinner dance. I moved to Georgia and he moved to Arizona. In 2009, he told me that I was going to become Mrs. Williams.  I replied to his email very sarcastically. I told him not to make false statements. But he was not discouraged. He kept in touch with Happy Birthdays, Merry Christmases and Happy New Years until 2016.

He returned to Michigan in 2013. I was still living in Georgia. I visited Michigan in the summer of 2016 and decided to see Mr. Williams in person while visiting my family.

Time and distance hadn’t diminished our attraction to one another. The physical chemistry was intense. Charles moved to Rockwall in October 2017. I had planned to move to Plano, but found a job in Rockwall. I moved to Rockwall in May 2018 with the plan to rent a room from Charles until I found a nice place to live.

I never moved out. We were engaged in April 2019 and married in July 2019. And his cousin, my ex-husband and three of our four sons (he has two and I have two) also moved to Texas.

We celebrated six years of marriage in July and are new small group leaders at Lakepointe Church.

Editor’s Note: Each year for Valentine’s Day, Blue Ribbon News asks local couples to share stories of how they met. Publishing their tales of true love has become one of our favorite traditions. This year the response was overwhelming. Stay tuned to our Facebook page as Valentine’s Day approaches. The names of several lucky participating couples will be randomly drawn to win gifts from our local prize sponsors – Culpepper Cattle Co., Dodie’s Cajun Diner, Zanata, Wickland’s Sweet Connection, Lakeside Florist, and Wildflower Wigs.
