Rockwall County Historical Foundation launches ‘Texas Time Bus Tour’ to kick off America’s 250th celebration

ROCKWALL, TX (March 6, 2026) — As the United States prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary, the Rockwall County Historical Foundation is inviting the community to step back in time and rediscover the stories that shaped the place we call home.

The nonprofit organization will kick off its America’s 250 celebration with the inaugural Texas Time Bus Tour on Saturday, April 4, departing at 10 a.m. from the Rockwall County Historical Museum, located at 901 E. Washington Street.

Guided by local historian Mark Russo, the tour will take guests on a journey throughout Rockwall County, visiting historic sites while sharing the fascinating stories, people, and events that helped shape the county’s past—and continue to influence its future.

Participants will travel across the county by bus while hearing tales of Rockwall’s early pioneers, the development of its communities, and the unique history that connects the county to the broader story of Texas and the nation.

Founded in 1978, the Rockwall County Historical Foundation, a Texas nonprofit 501(c)(3), was established with a mission to collect, preserve, and share the rich history of Rockwall County. Through museum exhibits, educational programs, and community events like the Texas Time Bus Tour, the organization works to ensure that local stories and historical treasures remain accessible for future generations.

The Texas Time Bus Tour is the first in what the foundation hopes will be several opportunities for residents and visitors alike to reflect on the county’s heritage as the nation approaches its historic 250-year milestone in 2026.

Organizers say the tour is designed to celebrate not only the past, but also the enduring spirit of the community.

“From our pioneer roots to the vibrant community we know today, Rockwall County has a remarkable story to tell,” organizers shared. “This tour is about honoring where we’ve been, celebrating where we are, and inspiring the future—Texas Time style.”

The guided bus tour costs $30 per person and is suitable for ages 6 and up. Seating is limited.
