ROCKWALL, TX (April 2, 2026)— Local members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are marking the Easter season through acts of service, seeking to follow the example of Jesus Christ by loving and serving others.
Congregations partnered with two local nonprofits for projects to support children and families in need, providing both emotional and physical care.
Easter Baskets for The Rainbow Room
Volunteers assembled and donated 66 Easter baskets to children served by the Rainbow Room, which provides emergency resources for children involved with Child Protective Services.
“These baskets are a source of great joy. They help the children feel loved and provide a sense of normalcy as they celebrate Easter alongside their peers,” said Cindy O’Reilly, vice president of Rainbow Room Projects/Programs.
She noted the congregation stepped in “at a critical moment” when the organization’s usual sponsor was unable to provide baskets this year.
“The timing was nothing short of a ‘God moment.’ Ten days after learning of the need, the beautiful baskets were delivered. Members truly embraced ‘What Would Jesus Do,’ and acted accordingly,” said Angel Butler, volunteer and Rainbow Room board member.
Weekend Snack Bags for Life Message Food Pantry
Congregations partnered with Life Message Food Pantry in Rowlett, which serves over 500 families each week.
Members collected over 4,000 snack items, assembling 677 weekend snack bags for children who lack reliable access to food outside of school.
“When kids are out of school and are not receiving meals through the school’s food program, these bags give them something to eat between meals and sometimes it can be all they have to eat for the day. To be able to give these children a little extra means a lot to our community,” said Darla King, vice president of Life Message.
“Our mission at Life Message is to feed the hungry, help those in need, and give hope to those we serve. We pride ourselves on serving our community with dignity and respect,” King added.
The project was designed to align with the spirit of Easter by focusing on Christlike love and service.

“A perfect way to honor [Christ’s] commandment of loving others is to help alleviate suffering, especially the suffering of children. We were grateful to play a small part in showing God’s love,” said Reianna Cambridge, a volunteer organizer.

Living the Message of Easter
These efforts reflect a broader focus on centering Easter on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ—particularly His example of compassion and service. From baskets that bring joy to food that sustains, these acts of service demonstrate how even small efforts can make a meaningful impact. Community members are encouraged to consider incorporating Christlike service into their Easter celebrations by supporting local nonprofits working to meet needs across the area.
