YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas, GEHA Launch Free Learn to Swim Program for North Texas Children
DALLAS, TX (May 7, 2026) — On Tuesday, May 5, 2026, the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas and the Government Employees Health Association (GEHA) announced a new partnership aimed at breaking down barriers to water safety education through the launch of the Learn to Swim Program.

The joint initiative will provide no-cost swim lessons and water safety training to 300 children across North Texas. GEHA will also help provide essential swim equipment and transportation assistance to ensure children have the opportunity to attend and fully participate in lessons.

The initiative comes at a critical time. According to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, 21 children have drowned in Texas so far this year. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury-related death for children ages 5–14.

Swim lessons play an important role in helping children build confidence and develop life-saving skills in and around the water. Learn more about the Learn to Swim program: ymca geha SOTS.

The May 5 announcement event took place at the Park South Family YMCA, though lessons will be offered at YMCA locations across the Dallas metroplex.
