ROCKWALL, TX (Aug. 28, 2026) – As the nation marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, the Rockwall County Historical Foundation will once again create a moving tribute honoring each of the 2,977 lives lost that day.
For its second annual 9/11 Remembrance, the Foundation will place 2,977 American flags across the grounds of the Rockwall County Historical Foundation Museum at Harry Myers Park. Each flag represents one person whose life was lost on Sept. 11, 2001.
The Foundation is inviting the community to help bring the tribute to life.
Volunteers of all ages are welcome to gather at the museum beginning at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, to help place the small American flags throughout the museum grounds. Members of the Foundation, families, friends and community members are encouraged to participate.
No RSVP is required — simply show up and lend a hand.

Twenty-five years later, the display offers the Rockwall community an opportunity to come together, remember the lives behind the number, and ensure that the events and sacrifices of September 11 are never forgotten.
