ROCKWALL COUNTY, TX (Oct. 29, 2026) For five decades, a single constant has anchored the Rockwall County community through periods of growth, economic shifts, and hardship: an unwavering commitment to neighbors in need.

Marking its 50th anniversary this year, Helping Hands of Rockwall County continues to stand as an essential lifeline – addressing food insecurity, preventing homelessness, and delivering affordable healthcare across the county.

Since 1976, the agency’s mission has been to ensure that everyone in Rockwall County has food, safe shelter, and access to essential medical care.

Meeting Unprecedented Hunger Needs

As cost-of-living pressures mount, local demand for basic nourishment has surged to historical highs. Food pantry visits are up 33% over last year, driven by families striving to keep up with rising grocery prices. To keep pace, Helping Hands increased its food distribution by 40% in total pounds distributed.

By August 31, food pantry visits had already matched the total recorded for all 12 months of 2024. Through emergency food boxes and fresh groceries, the agency ensures no residents face empty cupboards during challenging times.

Keeping Families Housed and Connected

Beyond immediate hunger relief, emergency financial assistance plays a crucial role in maintaining community stability. In 2025, the agency provided financial aid to 1,976 households. Through August of this year, 1,411 households have already received direct emergency assistance totaling $482,000.

With 32% of all financial assistance dedicated directly to shelter, these funds serve as a primary defense against homelessness—keeping families safely in their homes, children in their local schools, and working adults active in the local workforce.

Comprehensive Healthcare at the Health Center

Recognizing that physical well-being is fundamental to self-sufficiency, the Helping Hands Health Center provides accessible medical care through flexible, sliding-scale programs as well as affordable cash pay options. By tailoring costs to income levels, the Health Center breaks down financial barriers for uninsured and underinsured residents, offering preventive care, chronic disease management, and wellness visits that keep the broader community healthy and resilient.

A Growing Impact Across the County

The scope of the agency’s outreach reflects both its expanding capacity and the growing needs of Rockwall County:

  • 2024: 31,783 clients served
  • 2025: 35,024 clients served
  • 2026 (through August 31): 28,785 clients served, putting the agency on track to assist a record-shattering number of residents by year-end.

Looking Ahead to the Next 50 Years

As Rockwall County continues to thrive, maintaining a robust safety net protects the quality of life for all residents. Celebrating 50 years of service is not only a look back at half a century of community support – it is a renewal of a commitment to ensure that every neighbor has access to food, shelter, and medical care.
