Preventing wheel theft

A message from Officer Greg Baldwin, Rowlett Police Department

Officer Greg Baldwin

(Rowlett) August 2, 2012 – Greetings! Wheel thefts have become a real problem in Rowlett and the rest of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. We have groups that scout out vehicles for this. The vehicles are usually parked in the driveway behind the residence. The suspects will use a jack to remove the tires. The thieves will often place the vehicle on blocks or large rocks after each tire is removed. These offenses usually happen late at night or very early in the morning.

Please, report all suspicious activity and persons immediately to the police. Be on the lookout for vehicles slowly cruising the alleys, someone messing with a neighbor’s vehicle, and someone that could be a “lookout” while his friends are stealing tires.

Do not confront these suspects. They are dangerous and may try to hurt you to get away. Call 911 and we will quickly respond.

To help prevent this crime, park your vehicle in a garage whenever possible or place a tilt sensor alarm on your vehicle.
