Rockwall Police Department Drug Return
October 9, 2012 – Rockwall police collected 225 pounds of old and unwanted prescription drugs that filled 10 boxes during the Sept. 29th Prescription Drug Take Back Initiative, a national event sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Agency.
The program provides residents the opportunity to turn in their expired or unwanted prescription drugs to a law enforcement agency for safe disposal.
The drug take-back program is offered to residents twice a year. The next opportunity to dispose of unwanted drugs will be in April 2013, according to Sgt. Jeff Welch.
Texas Night Out
Rockwall police joined neighborhoods across the city on October 2 for the annual Texas Night Out, a state-wide event associated with National Night Out, a crime and drug prevention program.
This year, police hosted 17 neighborhood events where police and fire officials, elected city officials and the Citizens on Patrol volunteers joined with residents to show their support for crime fighting.
Rockwall Police Sgt. Jeff Welch estimated that between 750 to 1,000 people participated in this year’s event.
Texas Night Out is associated with National Night Out, sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch that is held in August. Due to Texas’ scorching August temperatures, the “Texas-style” Night Out celebration was initiated in October.
