(Garland ISD) October 31, 2012 – Garland ISD’s District Improvement Plan includes five main goals, one of which ensures that every campus provides a safe, healthy, orderly environment. Several GISD schools were recently recognized for doing just that as the Garland Fire Marshal’s Office and GISD Student Services Department issued safety and attendance awards.
The Garland Fire Marshal’s Office inspects GISD schools within Garland city limits twice per year—once in the fall and again in the spring. Awards are issued according to the number and percentage of violations corrected between the first and second visit. Schools with a 100-percent correction rate receive a plaque. A traveling trophy is also given to the elementary, middle, and high school campuses with the highest percentage of corrections. If more than one school in a category corrects 100 percent of its violations, the school with the fewest initial violations wins the traveling trophy.
The following schools were recognized by the Garland Fire Marshal’s Office this year:
Bradfield Elementary School – plaque
Bullock Elementary School – plaque
Carver Elementary School – plaque
Centerville Elementary School – plaque and trophy
Club Hill Elementary School – plaque
Golden Meadows Elementary School – plaque
Lyles Middle School – trophy
Lakeview Centennial High School – plaque and trophy
Shorehaven Elementary School – plaque
Walnut Glen Academy for Excellence – plaque
Additional GISD campuses were also recognized for holding the district’s highest attendance rates:
Austin Academy for Excellence – 97.80 percent
Sachse High School – 96.45 percent
Walnut Glen Academy – 97.92 percent
Watson Technology Center for Math and Science – 97.92 percent
