(DALLAS-December 12, 2012) Homeless people can spend the holidays outside, without a family or a blanket. This holiday season, members and staff at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church look to change that for at least one night.
Everybody’s Christmas is a night where homeless people and others in need from across Dallas come through to the doors to LLUMC to experience a night of Christmas… and it truly is for everybody. There will be a powerful worship experience, a seated dinner of warm food, a coat giveaway, activities for the children and family photos for all guests.
The purpose of Everybody’s Christmas is to reach out to those in the city of Dallas to share the gospel message of Jesus Christ, who has come to serve the least of these. The goal is to provide Christmas for the guests in such a way that those in need can feel like they are not the least. Guests from across the city are to be treated with sincere hospitality and service and to make the name and love of Jesus Christ more famous.
“This will be our third year to reach out to the community with Everybody’s Christmas. As many of us put out Christmas lights and get excited about cinnamon lattes, this is season where many homeless and others in need struggle the most. We want to do what we can to share God’s love with them this Christmas,” said Kay DeBlance, minister of missions, outreach and young adults at LLUMC.
“Everybody’s Christmas is important to the community because it allows our church to get outside themselves in a service to those in need, as well as provide those in the community with food, coats and gifts. We also strive to be hospitable and focus on relationships so that everybody knows they are welcome here,” she said.
Everybody’s Christmas will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19 in the main sanctuary and Asbury Hall of Lovers Lane United Methodist Church, 9200 Inwood Road in Dallas.
Hundreds of volunteers are needed to make the night possible, and everyone is welcome to serve. To sign up or volunteer, visit http://llumc.org/everybodyschristmas/ or contact Kay DeBlance at kdeblance@llumc.org or 214-706-9686.
