Organization empowers men recently released from prison to re-enter society, workforce
(ROCKWALL-February 23, 2013) Volunteers of One Man’s Treasure Clothes Closet, a Rockwall–based charity, were honored January 29 with a Mardi Gras-themed celebration at the home of Nancy Laspe, a four-year volunteer and a native of Louisiana.
Nancy thrilled everyone with her décor, delicious king cakes, and a guided tour through the great Louisiana celebration.
Forty-five of the Rockwall site volunteers who gather, shop, mend, organize and prepare clothing packages for delivery attended the event. Pictured are recipients of awards for 5-7 years of service.
One Man’s Treasure is a 501c3 established in 2005 in Rockwall. Its mission is to empower men recently released from prison to the Dallas/Rockwall area with sets of clothing delivered to them by a male volunteer, called a shepherd. These sets of clothing (5 shirts, 2 pants, shoes, socks, underwear, t-shirt, and a tie paired with one shirt for interviews) help the men reenter society as employed men, husbands, and dads.
One Man’s Treasure has experienced phenomenal success, with researched recidivism rates for each 3 year period averaging below 12.5%, well below the published 50-67% nationwide. One Man’s Treasure is a faith-based venture and is supported by many Rockwall churches and organizations.
