Sheriff Eavenson to discuss schemes, scams with Friends of Library

(ROCKWALL-March 25, 2013) Sheriff Harold Eavenson will be the featured speaker at the April 9 meeting of Friends of the Rockwall County Library.

He will brief the group on the latest schemes and scams and tell attendees how to protect their home and persons.

According to Sheriff Eavenson, bad guys are constantly thinking up ways to threaten our safety and assets.  He will discuss the most common scams and tell about a few that the audience may not be aware of.

Prior to being elected Rockwall County sheriff in 2001, Eavenson served 18 years with the Texas Department of Public Safety and was assigned to the Organized Crime Unit of the Criminal Intelligence Service.  He also spent 16 years in the financial industry and later managed his on consulting investigative company.

Sheriff Eavenson serves on the board of directors of the National Sheriff’s Association and is slated to become its president in 2017.  He was one of 13 sheriffs to travel to Israel in 2006 to learn about terrorism and counter-terrorism measures.

Underwriters for the April meeting are Community Bank, Rockwall Oral & Facial Surgery, American National Bank, Neil Stibbens-NJS Services LLC, Mary Sue Smith, Keller Williams Rockwall, and Jeffery Minth DDS.

Friends meets six times a year and all meetings, with the exception of the Christmas Luncheon, are held in the Community Room of the Rockwall County Library.  The group works to promote the interest and welfare of the Library and profits from their various fundraising events supplement the County library budget, paying for special children’s programming, adult literacy programs, subscriptions and other items.

Meetings start at 11 a.m. and visitors are invited; however reservations are required for all and must be received by Tuesday, April 2.  That is also the last day to cancel prior reservations. For reservations e-mail or call 972-771-8976.
