(FRISCO – April 2, 2013) Frisco-based Millennial Kids Couture, Inc., a registered 501(c)3 non-profit teaching children ages 8-18 the fundamentals of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math through Fashion Design, launched their program on March 28 at the Frisco Chamber of Commerce in downtown Frisco.
Rosalyn J. Leigh, Founder and Director of Millennial Kids Couture, will lead the charge in educating local children in her engaging after school and summer programs.
“We’re so excited to get this program launched and out to the children in our community. My three children were the inspiration behind Millennial Kids Couture. We want to ensure that every child learns the essentials of science, technology, engineering and math, and what better way to teach them through something all children can relate to, fashion,” said Leigh.
According to recent studies performed by Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) and The Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS), the United States ranked 11th in fourth-grade math, 9th in eighth-grade math, 7th in fourth-grade science and 10th in eighth-grade science.
“Our biggest goal is to help children understand how fun science and math can actually be so they will be prepared for college, enabling them to choose any degree they desire. Our programs will include understanding where materials are sourced and how they are made, along with the technology used to design and manufacture each item. And that’s just the start,” said Leigh.
The Millennial Kids Couture programs also include career exploration and science related field trips, health and nutrition studies as well as a program to help children achieve a positive self-image to encourage good self-esteem and anti-bullying.
“Launching this non-profit is a dream come true. I am so excited that we will be able to help so many children and parents through our organization,” beamed Leigh.
