RACE taking nationally ranked swimmers to State Meet
(Rockwall) July 11, 2013 – The Rockwall Aquatic Center of Excellence (RACE) will be taking its highest ranked swimmers to compete in the Texas Age Group Swimming (TAGS) Long Course Championships July 24 – 28 in Austin.
The TAGS meet takes the top talent in 10, 12 & 14 and under age groups determined by preset qualifying times.
This year’s entries are highlighted by the 11/12 girls 200 & 400 meter freestyle relay team of Emma Hultquist, Savanna Lowry, Janelle Hummingbird and Ruth Huffman. They will be entering the tournament with the 5th best 400 relay time in the nation (as of 7/8/2013). Their time of 4:23.57 is also the fastest time among Texas teams as well. Their 200 free relay time of 2:00.89 is also the fastest time posted in Texas this year and ranks 16th in the nation.
The boys will be taking their nationally ranked talent into this meet as well. Jace Brown’s 100 freestyle time (59.94) and 100 butterfly (1:05.31) are the 5th and 12th fastest times in the nation. David Johnston will be displaying his flair for distance as he touts an 800 freestyle time of 9:55.22 and 400 freestyle of 4:49.21. Those times are currently 5th and 19th in the nation.
These six swimmers, coached by Tom Applegate, will be joined at the TAGS meet with other RACE swimmers who have qualified. These qualifiers include Amanda Armstrong, Brooke Arnold, Nicole Bruner, Bridget Griesbach, Kiley Harmon, Carolyn Johnston, Johann Kuipers, Emily Manly and Christian Weaver (as of press time). With the goal of being “Best in Texas” met, RACE hopes to have some swimmers wear the title of “Best in the Nation” soon.
