Restored log house open, offers glimpse of frontier life

(Denton County) The completely restored and fully-furnished Minor-Porter Log House, located at Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area, offers visitors a sense of what everyday life was like in Denton County in 1870.

Take a self-guided tour during the Open House event from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17. Volunteers will also be on hand to guide visitors of all ages through the structures and answer questions. There is no fee for this activity beyond the regular admission to LLELA ($5 per person; children age 5 and under are admitted free).

Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area comprises 2,000 acres of prairies, forests, and wetlands managed as a wildlife preserve by a group of agencies including U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, University of North Texas, City of Lewisville, Lewisville ISD, and Texas A & M University. Its mission is to preserve and restore native ecosystems and to provide and promote environmental education and scientific research.

LLELA is open to the public every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for fishing, hiking, camping, bird watching, kayaking/canoeing, picnicking, and other outdoor activities.
