City of Rockwall revamps baseball, softball programs

ROCKWALL (November 26, 2013) Stay & Play in Rockwall is the new game plan for the City’s baseball-softball teams.

Previously, youth baseball and softball services were provided on behalf of the City of Rockwall by contracting with the Rockwall Baseball Association and Rockwall Girls Softball Association, which required teams to travel to other areas for games.  In 2013, the City Council made a significant investment in its baseball and softball facility by adding new fields, dugouts, and bleachers.

The RBA and RGSA have transitioned the operations of both leagues to the City of Rockwall for the Spring 2014 season, a merger now known as the Rockwall Baseball and Softball League (RBSL).

“We have an opportunity to continue to operate under the same rules and national governing bodies that previous participants are used to, as well as provide new features based on customer feedback, such as team registration, automated alert system for field status, and discounted resident fee,” said Parks and Recreation Manager Andy Hesser.

Registration for girls fast-pitch softball and boys baseball begins December 2. RBSL will offer tournaments and skills clinics to be scheduled in the near future.

To direct the new ball leagues, the city hired John Evans as Athletic Supervisor and Program Director. He previously was athletic coordinator in Southlake, in Frisco and in Flower Mound.

“We want this to be an enjoyable, positive experience for all,” Evans said.
