WYLIE (January 7, 2014) Coventry Reserve in Wylie will host Volunteer Training from 8:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, January 24th.
If you are looking for an opportunity to serve the community, please consider assisting adults with special needs as they create beautiful pottery.
Coventry is a day program that provides life enrichment opportunities for adults with special needs. The purpose of the handcrafted pottery is to help fund the nonprofit program.
Coventry Volunteer Opportunity’s are available Monday – Thursday from 8:45am–3:00pm. Two hour to full day positions are available, and no experience is necessary, but training is required to assist as a support in the day program for safety and effectiveness. Come and see if this might be a perfect fit for your time and desires to find a place to give.

Types of Volunteering Opportunities:
Full Day/In Program Volunteer
These volunteers come weekly for the full day, 8:45 – 3:00, and work in one of the program stations for the whole session. Depending on the volunteers’ interests and our program needs, you can work in the Creative Skills area building the pottery pieces out of wet clay slabs or painting color glazes on the bisque pieces or the Brain Building Center – using tools and activities to integrate the brain for better focus. These volunteers bring a lunch and eat with us and are active with us during our Teaching Time and Exercise Time. It is a good, full and busy day!
Part Day/In Program Volunteer These volunteers either attend the first half of our day – 8:45-12:00 helping in the first 2 station rotations of the day or the last half of the day – 12:00-3:00, helping with Teaching Time, Exercise Time and the last station rotation.
2 Hour Green Ware Cleaning Volunteer
Once the pottery is formed and dried, it is called Green ware. It is very fragile and breaks easily. Before it gets fired in the kiln, all the edges and rough areas have to be smoothed and “cleaned”. This step requires good fine motor skills and is very challenging for many of our participants. Volunteers come in weekly for 2 hours from 9:00-11:00 or 1:00-3:00 to help us complete this step of the creative process.
