ROWLETT, Texas – April 23, 2014 – Lake Pointe Health Network (LPHN) based in Rowlett, Texas, was recently selected as one of the Dallas Business Journal’s Healthiest Employers in North Texas for remarkable dedication to providing a healthy workplace. LPHN received the No. 12 ranking in the large company category. This is the second consecutive year LPHN has received the award.
“Lake Pointe’s mission is to keep individuals in our community and their families happy and healthy by providing exceptional healthcare,” said Brett Lee, LPHN’s chief executive officer. “We understand that wellness of our patients is contingent on the wellness of our hard-working and dedicated medical staff members, which is why we’re incredibly proud to be recognized as one of North Texas’ healthiest employers.”
The annual awards program, created by Indianapolis-based Healthiest Employers LLC, measures wellness in six categories: culture and leadership commitment, foundational components, strategic planning, communication and marketing, programming and interventions and reporting and analysis. With more than 1,000 employees, LPHN was selected in the large company category for this year’s award.
As a Tenet Healthcare-owned organization, LPHN utilizes the Tenet Total Wellness approach to implement different wellness programs year-round. Staff members are encouraged to be intentional about their health and are also rewarded for reaching or taking steps to reach specific health goals related to four factors: cholesterol, body mass index, blood pressure and tobacco use. The staff has opportunities to take part in wellness seminars, challenges and activities. Additionally, employee participation is awarded with monthly chances to win prizes. In 2013, 75.3 percent of all LPHN employees participated.
Libby Garrett, an LPHN employee and registered nurse who works in the hospital’s emergency department, shared, “It’s wonderful working at a facility that encourages its employees to take care of themselves. As healthcare providers, it’s our job to focus on the physical, mental and emotional well being of our patients, but Lake Pointe’s employee health and wellness program has helped me focus on my own health and taught me how to live a more balanced life. Encouraging my patients to make healthier lifestyle choices and leading by example is just one of the many things I love about my job at Lake Pointe.”
