ROCKWALL COUNTY, TX (May 11, 2014) Being a stay-at-home mom doesn’t have to mean staying at home. Perhaps no one knows that better than members of the Rockwall MOMS Club, who gather regularly for support, friendship and fun activities in and around Rockwall County.

About 30 local moms and their newborn-to-elementary-age children comprise the local chapter of this international service organization. They come from Rockwall,RoyseCity, Fate, Heath and McLendon-Chisholm to enjoy field trips, play groups, volunteer projects and visits from special guest speakers. Stay-at-home and work-from-home mothers with children of any age are encouraged to join. The support network continues even after kids enter school.

Rockwall MOMS Club members gather for lunch at Chick-Fil-A.

“The purpose of our group is to encourage and support one another on our parenting journey,” said Stephanie Pasher, Membership Vice President.

“We understand the frustrations and joys, and we celebrate the little successes – like just having a shower and making it out of the house! We visit museums, parks and other kid-friendly places. We go out to lunch, have laid-back playgroups in our homes, and participate in themed activities for the holidays.”

Rockwall MOMS Club members meet at Vernon Elementary in Fate for a play date.

Children are welcome at every event, with the exception of MOMS Night Out. This popular outing occurs once a month and gives moms the chance to connect with each other without children in tow. Members also participate in “Meals for Moms;” whenever a life-changing event takes place, such as a birth, adoption or illness, members volunteer to cook or buy a meal for the member in need, and deliver it to her home.

The nonprofit organization also performs service projects to benefit needy children in the community. Recently, the MOMS Club of Rockwall hosted their 2nd Annual Bunco Tournament at San Martino Winery, raising more than $7,000 for the Rainbow Room.

Rockwall MOMS Club members (back row, from left) Brandy Grisanti, Angela Smith, Debbie Kluge, Mary Taylor, Natalee Ridenhour, Emily Patterson, Danielle Feeley and (front row, from left) Daysha Crain, Gabby Cullen, Jessica Hooten and Stephanie Pasher worked diligently to make their Bunco fundraising event a success.

“The fundraising proceeds will assist with the purchase of backpacks and school supplies for the school-aged children in the care of the Department of Family and Protective Services,” said Dorothy Burris, Rainbow Room Board President. “The Rainbow Room could not continue, in some small way, to make the lives of these children better without the overwhelming support of the community organizations such as the MOMS Club of Rockwall.”

Pasher said the money brought in during the Bunco party was triple what they achieved last year. “We are excited to see what next year’s fundraiser can do!” she said.

“Visitors are welcome to check out one play date and one meeting before deciding to join,” Pasher added. “We always welcome new moms! Our annual dues are only $30, and moms and kids get so much in return. Plus we give back to the community at the same time.”
