Safe Routes to School projects nears completion

Handicap ramps to be added along trails

New Safe Routes to School trail along Dorothy Pullen Elementary and Cain Middles Schools.

HEATH, TX (October 7, 2014) The City of Heath’s Safe Routes to School project, funded through the City’s Capital Improvement Plan and a grant from the Texas Transportation Commission, is almost finished.

The remaining work involves modifying handicap ramps along the Horizon Drive segment of the trails to meet ADA requirements. State approval is required for these modifications, and the process is expected to take six to eight weeks.  Once state approval is obtained, the ramps will be completed and open for use by the public.

Handicap ramps will be modified at Jeff Boyd and Horizon Drive (Cobblestone Subdivision); near the Lighthouse Private School; and at Country Club Drive at Horizon Drive (Buffalo Creek Subdivision).
