Rockwall Jacket Backers name Athletes of the Month

ROCKWALL, TX. (January 13, 2014) The Rockwall High School Jacket Backers have selected Austin Grandstaff as the “Meador Auto Yellowjacket Athlete of the Month” and Mandi McMillan as the “Meador Auto Lady Jacket Athlete of the Month”.

Grandstaff, a 12th grade member of the Varsity Basketball Team was nominated by Coach Alan Simmons and chosen by the Jacket Backers board. Austin has led the Jackets to a 3-2 record in the last 5 games, averaging 41 points per game. He has been a leader on the floor, helping the Jackets play their best basketball heading into district play.

During December, Austin was named to the Allen In and Out Burger Invitational all tournament team. In the 4 games of the tournament and the game prior to the tournament he averaged 41 pts per game.

“Austinhas elevated his game to a very high level and he has elevated our teams play.” said Coach Simmons

Also nominated this month were Brandon Smith (Wrestling) and Adam Alford (Gymnastics).

During December, Mandi Helped the Lady Jackets to a tournament championship in the Bishop Lynch tournament and a 3rd place finish in the M.T. Rice Tournament. Mandi is the 2nd leading scorer on the team, averaging 12 points per game and shooting 58% from the floor. She is also the leading rebounder,  averaging 6.6 rebounds per game. In district games, Mandi is averaging 15 points per game.

Mandi is one of the team captains, the leading rebounder, and the 2nd leading scorer on the team.

“Mandi practices and plays the game every day with all her heart.  She is one of our hardest workers on the team.  She constantly pushes herself to giving a perfect effort every day and challenges her teammates to do the same.  ” said Coach Brewer

Also nominated was Jackie Mote (Wrestling).
