Rockwall Police Chief Reports Holiday Crime Initiative a Success

ROCKWALL, TX (Feb. 19, 2015) Rockwall’s 2014 Holiday Crime Initiative, which added extra police patrols throughout the I-30 retail and restaurant corridor, was again a successful program during the 2014 Christmas holidays.  The Rockwall Police Department increased their presence on Thanksgiving weekend, the two weeks preceding Christmas, on Christmas Day, and the day after for a total of 17 days.

City of Rockwall Police Chief Mark Moeller reported to City Council at its meeting this week that the City achieved its goal to make the holiday shopping experience safe and enjoyable.  In 2014, there was a 17 percent drop in reported offenses compared to 2013.

“The 2014 Holiday Crime Initiative proves its effectiveness in providing a safe environment for our residents and visitors during the busy shopping season,” said Chief Moeller.

He reminded shoppers to aid police throughout the year by taking a few precautions:

  • Don’t leave your keys in the vehicle;
  • Lock vehicle doors; and
  • Hide valuable items such as GPS devices, cellular phones, and packages.

“Taking these precautions,” Chief Moeller noted, “will greatly reduce your chances of being a victim of theft.”
