(ROCKWALL/HEATH, TX – March 27, 2015) The Rockwall-Heath senior and junior girls met at the RHHS football field March 26 to participate in the 6th annual Powder Puff Football Game. The game has always served as a philanthropic fundraiser; and this year, proceeds went to the RHHS chapter for Hanna4Hope.
Student Council officers Mackenzie Long, Kenzie Woessner, and Annabelle Baker designated this group as the recipient after attending a club meeting at which Hanna’s mother Raina shared her touching, tragic, and heartfelt story. Her words greatly inspired these young ladies and spurred them on to support the club in any way possible.
Who said football was only a man’s sport? This year’s game was held in the spring rather than in November when it has always previously been held, and a great crowd turned out to see an aggressively played and very athletic match-up. The ladies pulled together their finest contenders to compete for bragging rights as they do every year.
Senior captains Kenzie Woessner, Annabelle Baker, Mackenzie Long, and Bailey Varner, and Junior Captains Britton Swanson, Carly Brown, and Ally Helms met at the middle of the field before the game to shake hands and flip the coin. Seniors won the coin toss and the Juniors received the ball.
“I really loved be able to give proceeds of the game to such a great organization, especially our chapter of Hanna4Hope. After meeting with Hanna’s parents and Brandi Patterson, the Hanna4Hope Director of Events, I automatically knew we had to support this amazing organization and show that teen suicide has a big effect on our generation,” Kenzie Woessner, Senior Captain said.
Hanna 4 Hope, Inc. is a non-profit foundation established to bring teenage suicide, one of the leading causes of death among today’s youth, to the forefront of communities. This organization is known in both Rockwall and Heath schools, and has really made an impact on individuals.
A significant portion of the club came to the event and set up an informational tent and to interact with the Heath students. They were a positive presence and were very enthusiastic about the opportunity to share their message.
Senior Captain Annabelle Baker said, “It was amazing to spend my last Powder Puff with all my friends and family. Seniors always bring it out for a win.”
By the end of the night, after all the intensity, the seniors came out as a win by 2 points, ending the score of 9-7 after tying up the whole 2nd half. The night was epic and highly competitive battle and will go down in the pages of Hawk History.
“Powder Puff is always a special event for us, and we were so pleased to be able to highlight such a significant and important cause. Overall, both teams showed great sportsmanship and kept the purpose of the event in mind as they played. We were especially grateful to Heath Coaches Rodney Swinson, Kendall Hill, and Josh Rohmer, who served as referees, and to Mr. “Timbo” Duncan, who served as our play-by-play announcer. We had a lot of fun for a great cause,” StuCo Sponsor Leah Voth said.
Heath Student Council will make donation to Hanna4Hope and will continue to support the club whenever they can.
