(ROCKWALL, TX – July 6, 2015) Beginning this week you might find fellow Rockwall residents duck hunting around town. But there’s no need to worry: their pursuit will be bullet-free.
The Rubber Duck Regatta is coming to the Rockwall Harbor this fall, and in an effort to rally community support, event organizers have decided to host The Great Duck Hunt. This city-wide rubber duck scavenger hunt lasts Monday, July 6 through Saturday, September 26 and will yield both cash prizes and social media fame to its winners.
“We are very excited to get The Great Duck Hunt started,” event organizer and Meals on Wheels Board Member Brenda Cross said. “We decided to do this as a way to attract new businesses and people to get involved in the Rockwall Rubber Duck Regatta. We want our entire community to support Meals on Wheels Senior Services and The Boys & Girls Clubs of Rockwall County.”
Clues to the ducks’ whereabouts will be posted on the Rockwall Duck Regatta Facebook page. Once contestants track down a duck at a local business, they must take a photo with it and submit the photo online at www.thegreatduckhunt.com. There photos will accumulate votes.
The first person to find the rubber duck each week will win a Rubber Duck Regatta T-Shirt. On September 26 at the Duck Regatta, a winner will be drawn at from the pool of participants with the most entries and awarded a $500 Visa gift card. A $250 Visa gift card will also go to the participant whose duck hunt photo gets the most likes and shares online.
Cross said she has high hopes that this new event will take flight and drum up support for the Regatta.
“We hope that our citizens get excited about the scavenger hunt and we hope that we have a lot of participation,” Cross said.
