(Dec. 29, 2015) After the tornados that tore through North East Texas Saturday night, many community members are left without homes, supplies, or transportation. Several organizations are providing disaster relief to the victims and volunteer opportunities to those who want to help.
Supplies
Church in the City canceled their regular services Sunday morning to assist in the immediate clean up. They are now open as a disaster relief center providing temporary shelter, food, water, toiletries, medical supplies and blankets. Their address is 6005 Dalrick Rd, Rowlett, TX.
Eastridge Church of Christ invites all community members affected by the recent tornados to receive free supplies from the Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort. A truckload of food, water, cleaning supplies, wheelbarrows, mops and blankets arrived at the building this morning. Anyone who needs assistance can simply call the church office at (972) 771-9161 or visit the building at 670 N Stodghill Rd, Rockwall, TX and provide some form of identification to receive supplies.
Cornerstone Assembly of God also canceled Sunday services and have been collecting and distributing supplies for the past several days. They have collected clothing and many household items, as well as food and cleaning supplies. Today they loaded up Home Depot buckets with supplies and delivered them to families in need around the community. They have encouraged anyone affected by the tornados to contact them with needs. First Rowlett Methodist Church collected donations over the past several days and is now open for distribution. According to their facebook page, they have clothing, food, bedding, cleaning supplies, storage containers, tarps, paper products, and baby items. Their address is 4405 Main St, Rowlett, TX.
Lake Pointe has encouraged tornado victims to email the church at assistance@lakepointe.org for anything they might need, or visit their church office at 701 E Interstate 30, Rockwall, TX. Transportation to the building is available for those who need it.
Pet Services
The Rockwall Pets facebook page is working to unify pets lost in the storm with their owners. They encouraged community members to post photos of lost and found pets and provide contact information.
Pet FBI (Found By Internet) of Dallas/ Fort Worth has also been posting photos of displaced pets who are at the Rowlett Animal Shelter.
Premiere Vet Care Animal Clinic has been sheltering displaced pets and working to unite them with their owners. They have an online volunteer sign up for anyone who can help with laundry and care here:
They are also looking for volunteers to help transport pets back to their homes.
Other Services
ASI Gymnastics will offer free camp sessions through Dec. 31 for children (ages 3-14) of families affected by the tornados or children of emergency response teams. The sessions are offered at the Rockwall, Mesquite and Firewheel locations. Camp sessions last from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. ASI asks that parents provide a sack lunch for their children, but will provide food if families are unable. They also require parents to create an account at asigymnastics.com or upon arrival.
Steadham Elementary and the Rowlett Community Centre have established shelters for anyone displaced from their homes.
Lake Pointe Medical Center has opened an urgent care health clinic at the Disaster Resource Center, located inside the Rowlett Community Centre at 5300 Main St., for residents affected by the tornado. A doctor will be onsite from 9am-6pm every day.
