(ROCKWALL, TX – July 14, 2016) The City of Rockwall Mosquito Abatement Program has continually monitored mosquito populations in live mosquito traps in various locations around the City. Those samples are sent to the Texas Department of State Health Services to be tested for West Nile virus. The State informed the City that a live trap did test positive for West Nile virus, but there are no reported human cases of West Nile virus within the city limits.
Based upon the recommendation of the City Health Official, the City of Rockwall staff is initiating a Mosquito Abatement Program consisting of fogging the entire city once a week for the next four weeks. Beginning on Monday, July 18, City crews will begin fogging streets between the hours of 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. In August, the City will reassess the circumstances based on the results of live mosquito trap tests.
