(ROCKWALL/HEATH, TX – Sept. 28, 2016) The Fulton School has headed into the 2016-17 school year in full swing as it prepares to celebrate 30 years providing a well-balanced education to area students.
The Fulton School – located at 1626 Smirl Dr. – is an independent, coeducational college preparatory school spanning preschool through 12th grade.
Fulton will kick off its 30-year anniversary fundraising campaign with its annual Fulton Gala event on Feb. 25, 2017 at the Big Sky Events Center in Royse City.
Head of School Letha Hopkins said she hopes the event, coupled with the school’s recent Spirit Wear fundraiser which raised $1000, will help Fulton to expand its facilities and add to the playground area and athletic fields on its 13 acres.
“We hope to use what we raised from the Spirit Wear fundraiser to expand,” Hopkins said. “We have room for more classroom buildings, a gym and our athletic fields. We’re looking forward to that, and hopefully this 30-year anniversary campaign will be a good start for that.”
This year, Fulton students will get the unique opportunity to experience academics on a global scale. The Fulton School recently partnered with a group called NexGen which offers foreign exchange programs for schools across the United States and in China. Hopkins said the program will see students in Fulton’s Lower School have the opportunity to communicate with students their age in China to talk about what they’re learning in class as well as what they do outside of class.
“The ultimate goal is for them to bring kids to the United States and vice versa,” Hopkins said. “A lot of students in their school want to go to university here in the US and so if they can get a head start being here that is their goal. And of course, what a great experience for our kids to spend a few weeks or a semester or even a year learning in China.”
The Fulton School also welcomed the addition of five new teachers to its ranks this year:
Kyndra Thomas, Kindergarten
Gina Hancock, First Grade
Amanda Kraemer, Second Grade
Rosemary Mach, Third Grade
Ronnie Moss, Fourth Grade
Hopkins said she looks forward to another fantastic year of providing students with a quality education to further their academic and personal growth.
“We believe in dually preparing our students to enter the finest universities and colleges in the country, while also providing the personal and intellectual skills necessary to lead full and meaningful lives,” she said.
The Fulton School also invites all to come play a round of golf for a good cause at its Falcon Flight Golf Tournament on Nov. 7 at the Rockwall Golf and Athletic Club. Shotgun start is set for 12:30 p.m. For more information and to register for the tournament email Brenda Cross at Brenda.Cross@TheFultonSchool.org.
