Rockwall’s Sarver family takes flight with special program

(ROCKWALL, TX – Nov. 17, 2016) The Sarver family has three students in Rockwall ISD. Desiree is a junior and attends Rockwall High School. Chris attends Utley Middle School and Joshua is in second grade at Doris Cullins-Lake Pointe Elementary. Both Joshua and Chris are autistic and the Sarver family is always looking for different opportunities and experiences for them.

Their dad, John Sarver, heard of a program named “Challenge Air for Kids and Friends.” They submitted their application and the Sarver family was selected to participate.

The organization holds an annual event for families with students with special needs. Participants in this program are invited out for the day to a local airport to fly an airplane. On this day, the Sarver family was at Dallas Executive Airport.

Josh and Chris both had the opportunity to participate and they loved it! They started out their day by attending “pilot school” and hearing what it would be like once they’re up in the air. They had various family-friendly booths and activities that they could participate in throughout the day.

The boys’ favorite activity was watching the airplanes take off and land throughout the day. Each one of them got to co-pilot an airplane and they flew all the way to Waxahachie and back to Dallas. At the end of their exciting day they received a Co-Pilot Certificate for their accomplishment!
