(ROCKWALL, TX – Feb. 17, 2017) A Keyhole Garden Workshop will be held on Saturday, March 25 at the Rockwall County Library, 1215 E. Yellowjacket Lane in Rockwall. The program will begin with registration at 9 a.m. and Dr. Deb Tolman will begin the presentation at 9:30. After a lunch break, workshop participants will move to the RCMGA Discovery Garden at 875 Riding Club Road. Plan to bring a lawn chair and sun protection for your comfort during the afternoon.
A keyhole garden is a self-composting, raised bed garden. Learn how keyhole gardening can minimize your work while maximizing your results. The Rockwall County Master Gardener Association will be sponsoring a workshop on Keyhole Gardening with Dr. Deb Tolman as the speaker.
You may already know Dr. Deb. You may have seen her DVD. You may have read her book “Soiled Rotten”, or you may have seen her on Texas Country Reporter where she told Bob Phillips that it takes a dumpster’s worth of flattened cardboard to build one keyhole garden her way. If you don’t know Dr. Deb or haven’t heard of keyhole gardens you will learn on March 25 how to be the best gardener, despite trying times, using a keyhole garden.
With over 40 years of gardening experience, 20 years of formal training in disciplines connected to gardening, and a healthy curiosity about environmental systems and how they work, Dr. Deb empowers you to be, not just good, but an excellent grower. She does this by introducing a filling method to keyhole gardening that uses science and mimics nature – with no native soil; but by recycling, and hot composting while growing on top of the pile at the same time.
The registration fee is $25.00 per person and will cover the speaker fee and demonstration materials. You can pay and preregister by mail or by delivering your completed registration form and class fee to the Rockwall County Extension Office, 915 Whitmore, Suite B, Rockwall, Texas 75087. For more information call the Extension Office at 972-204-7660. A registration form and complete details are also available on the Master Gardener website at rockmga.org.
