UPDATE on Rockwall icon: ‘Positive Thoughts’ sign on Goliad coming down?

UPDATE:

The event has been postponed, as the removal of the sign will be brought before the Rockwall city council in their meeting in March. We will provide an update on what is decided about the sign at the city council meeting, so stay tuned!

(ROCKWALL, TX – Feb. 19, 2017) Please come pay your respects to a Rockwall legend.

The Rockwall community is invited to gather and say goodbye to a Rockwall icon…the ‘Positive Thoughts’ white sign on Goliad Street.

The sign was erected in 1976 as the brainchild of Ann and Dewayne Cain as a way to provide a positive message to those driving through the main thoroughfare in town. Over the years, the sign has provided prayers, chuckles, reminders of local events, and messages of encouragement when people needed them the most.

Lesli Johnson, long time resident of Rockwall and COO of Rest Haven Funeral Home, doesn’t remember a time that the sign wasn’t there. “I’ve been out in our community at an event with my Rest Haven name badge on and have had people stop me to say how impactful the sign had been in their life. A message or quote that spoke to them at that particular point in their lives.”

As Rockwall began growing and city ordinances changed, the ‘Positive Thoughts’ sign was grandfathered by the city due to its longevity in the community. Now, after a welding mishap, the sign will need to come down permanently.

Please come for a celebration on Tuesday, February 28^th at 10:00am to the Goliad Street location to share stories, get a photo with the sign and embrace the positive impact the sign has played in our community over the years.
