(ROCKWALL, TX – May 4, 2017) Congratulations to the April Jacket Backer Athletes of the Month Junior Hannah Frank for Softball and Senior Will Frizzell for Baseball.
Hannah has been a key component to the success of the Lady Jacket team. On the mound, her ERA was at its best through the month of April. Her three game series versus Lufkin was her best three game ERA so far this season. She has really shown maturity, composure, and resilience on the mound. This resilience was on display throughout the three game playoff series versus Lufkin, as she was confident in what she could do with those pitches as well as her heads up defense which resulted in getting lead outs when the ball was hit at her. Hannah was tough as nails after taking a ball to the rib cage and she also showed great composure and leadership in her ability to stay focused on her job pitching even when the defense came up short with errors behind her.
Offensively, in the month of April and in the Lufkin series, Hannah has one of the top 2 batting averages and top 2 slugging percentages on our team.
Lady Jacket Head Coach Shadie Acosta had this to say about Hannah: “There is a determination about this young lady that you want in every athlete and she has a strong sense and desire to be the one that the team can depend on. Hannah is a great competitor that continues to get better with every opportunity to play. She is the player who asks to be the one to get the job done when the situation is tough. Her maturity, composure, resilience and determination have been a major asset on the mound. We are so proud of the work that that she is putting in and incredibly pleased with her competitive spirit. Her presence on defense, whether it be in the outfield or on the mound and on offense in the lineup are certainly making major impacts that are contributing to the success of the team and we know that she will be someone to continue to watch not only during playoffs but next season as well.”
Hannah’s stats for 9 games in the month of April: Batting Average .464, Slugging .750, 1 Homerun, 1 Triple, 3 doubles, ERA 1.4In round 1 of playoffs (3 game series vs. Lufkin): BA .444, ERA 1.3
Will Frizzell
Clutch is the one word Coach Payne had to completely describe senior Will Frizzell. “This kid has gotten the big hits in the biggest moments and overall Will has just been clutch all year,” said Yellowjacket Head Coach Jeff Payne. Coach Payne added “He has turned it up another notch this month during final district stretch. Good things happen when he’s at the plate.”
Will’s Stats for April: .522 batting average, 3 HR, 15 RBI, 7 Runs, 2 Doubles, Only 1 strikeout all month
