(GARLAND, TX – Oct. 31, 2017)  Garland native Clint Bruce, former Navy SEAL and Co-Founder of Carry the Load, will take center stage at the Garland Chamber’s 30th Annual Leadership Garland Prayer Breakfast on Nov. 30, 2017.

In the event’s milestone 30th year, the Chamber’s Prayer Breakfast committee saw an opportunity to bring Bruce, who was honored as a “Hometown Leader” at the 25th annual event in 2012, to share his story of uniting the nation to bring back the meaning of Memorial Day through his organization, Carry the Load.

“I served our country as a Navy SEAL,” Bruce said. “Every Memorial Day I have a persistent, dull, deep ache. It’s the memory of all of the buddies I’ll never be able to talk to again. I couldn’t express my feelings with words, so I put on my boots, loaded my pack and I started walking. With every step, I thought about those buddies I lost. As I walked, a man stopped me and asked, ‘Son, who are you carrying?’ He understood what I couldn’t say. At that moment, I knew that other people felt like me, and Carry The Load was born.”

In traditional fashion, the Prayer Breakfast will bring a message of hope and compassion to the Garland community, as well as inspirational music by The Salvation Army Brass Band, the Garland High School Choir, and the Coventry Reserve Signing Stars. The Prayer Breakfast Committee annually honors a local non-profit organization with a monetary donation. This year, the Counseling Institute of Texas was selected. Attendees will also be invited to join the Committee in brightening the holiday season for local families by bringing a new, unwrapped toy to donate to The Salvation Army.

More than 300 guests are expected and seating is limited. Registration is available at www.garlandchamber.com.

The Prayer Breakfast, hosted by Leadership Garland, a program of the Garland Chamber of Commerce, is a prime example of Leadership Garland objectives as its sole focus is to unite the community through understanding and acceptance of the diverse issues facing Garland, Texas and the nation.
