Rockwall ISD holds Dedication Ceremony for Randy Talley Field

(ROCKWALL, TX – April 18, 2018) Rockwall ISD recently held a dedication ceremony for Randy Talley Field. The event was attended by Coach Talley’s family, former students, the Rockwall ISD Board of Trustees and staff, elected officials and community members.

“As a former baseball player in high school and college, I have played on fields named after significant coaches and players and all of them have one thing in common; each one of those namesakes made an indelible contribution to the game of baseball and the lives of student-athletes and families at that place,” said Dr. John Villarreal, Rockwall ISD superintendent. “It is an honor to recognize one of our own who has achieved that level, Mr. Randy Talley”

Coach Talley’s influence is deeply rooted in both the Rockwall High School and the Rockwall-Heath High School baseball programs and their perennial success can be traced directly back to the dedication that Coach Talley had for the students and athletes of Rockwall ISD.

“Coach Randy Talley’s influence on Rockwall ISD and our community is second to none,” said Athletics Director Russ Reeves. “The naming of the field in his honor is a celebration of his culminating impact on our community and our kids in perpetuity.”

Rockwall ISD Board Vice President Jon Bailey read aloud the board resolution that named the field after Coach Talley.

The board resolution:

Whereas, Coach Randy Talley’s distinguished career in education spanned 31 years, 22 of those years in the Rockwall Independent School District;

Whereas, in the course of his 22 years serving in Rockwall ISD as a history teacher, administrator, and the head coach of the Yellowjacket baseball team, Coach Talley made a positive, lasting impression on the lives of thousands of students and established Rockwall ISD baseball as the successful, highly regarded program it is today; and

Whereas, in keeping with the established tradition of naming facilities in honor of distinguished local educators and community members;

Now, Therefore, be it resolved in grateful appreciation for and recognition of his dedicated service, the Board of Trustees of the Rockwall Independent School District hereby names the baseball field located at the Elmer & Reesie Campbell Complex to be forever known in his honor as Randy Talley Field; Adopted the 13th day of November, 2017.
