(ROCKWALL, TX – Oct. 30, 2013) Rockwall ISD recently held a dedication ceremony for the Dr. Gene Burton College & Career Academy, attended by students, parents, staff, alumni, Rockwall ISD namesakes, government officials and community members.
It is a 151,460 square foot facility that houses 11 career & technical programs and more than 5,000 students walk the halls every week.
“This building is a vibrant, exciting place for young people to explore careers, and to experiment and grow in their areas of interest,” said Dr. Gene Burton, former Rockwall ISD superintendent and school namesake. “I am looking forward to see all the innovative and engaging learning experiences designed for these talented and motivated young men and women.”
On October 3, 2017 Rockwall ISD held a signing ceremony where community members wrote messages of hope on sheetrock that was installed above the ceiling tiles in the administrative offices of Burton Academy.
Dr. Burton wrote: “Be kind, compassionate and help others! One person can make a difference, and that person is you!”
Dr. Villarreal wrote: “To all that enter, 1. Love one another 2. Be creative and solve problems 3. Demand excellence in all you do 4. Use your gifts to make our world better.”
The Burton Academy is a vital part of the STEM program for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. It offers pathways designed to provide students with an opportunity to explore career options and professional certifications.
