(ROCKWALL, TX – Feb. 11, 2019) In a ceremony held Feb. 1 in Austin, Cole Randolph of Rockwall was presented with the Texas Special Olympics Male Athlete of the Year Award for Area 10 – an honor he earned earlier this fall while participating on the Rockwall County Special Olympics Team.
Cole plays sports year round, participating in basketball, cycling, swimming, bowling, and flag football.
Cole’s Coach, Rose Antony, was recognized as the Texas Special Olympics Trainer of the Year at both the Area and State Level. She trains and mentors potential coaches to work with special needs athletes. The Rockwall County Special Olympics Team currently has nearly 100 athletes active in at least one sport and 18 certified volunteer coaches.
Just recently, the Special Olympics basketball teams played halftime exhibition games at Rockwall High School and Rockwall-Heath High School. Cole’s mom, Lori Randolph, thanks the RISD and the community for its support, and encourages everyone to say hello to the athletes, many of whom can be seen sacking groceries at our local Tom Thumb and Kroger grocery stores.
