Rockwall ISD releases Instructional Continuity Plan for Remote Learners

ROCKWALL, TX (July 21, 2020) Rockwall ISD shared the following information today for remote learners.

Welcome Students and Parents!

A School Start Committee composed of district leaders, campus leaders, and curriculum and instruction team members have been working on plans for the upcoming academic school year. We appreciate you and our teachers for responding to our end of year online campus learning survey. With the data from those surveys and our work with 66 teachers this summer, we are able to provide you with the following information for families who are exploring the remote instruction experience for their child for the 2020-2021 school year. This experience is designed for students to engage with the Rockwall ISD curriculum on their own time, interacting intermittently with teachers virtually through online learning management systems called Seesaw (PreK-2) and Canvas (Grades 3-12+). Students in this model will be provided the required curriculum per the Texas Education Code. School grading policies for remote student work will be consistent with those used before COVID for on campus assignments.

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) allows two types of remote instruction for the 2020-2021 school year, synchronous and asynchronous instruction which have been defined for you below.

Synchronous Instruction: Requires all participants to be present at the same time, virtually. For example: Live interactive classes with students and teachers participating realtime, teacher supported work time on video conference calls, scheduled and timed online tests.

Asynchronous Instruction: Does not require all participants to be virtually present at the same time. For example: self-paced online courses with intermittent teacher instruction, preassigned work with formative assessments in Seesaw/Canvas, or watching pre-recorded videos of instruction with guided support.

Please note that details are subject to change based on guidelines from local, state and federal authorities.
