Rockwall Commissioners Court approves county tax rate, FY2021 budget

ROCKWALL, TX – September 22, 2020 — During its regular meeting this morning, the Rockwall County Commissioners Court approved the county tax rate at .3131 per $100 assessed value for the 2020 tax year.

“Over the last six years, we’ve had consistent reductions is our tax rate to the tune of over 20 percent in the last six years,” said Commissioner Lee Gilbert. “There’s a study that has been done over total tax rates in counties in Texas. When you average our county’s city taxes, school taxes and county taxes, we have the fifth lowest tax rate out of all 254 counties in Texas.”

The newly-adopted rate equates to a 1.19-cent decrease, or 3.8 percent decrease, over the 2019 effective rate.

The court also unanimously approved the Rockwall County budget for the 2021 Fiscal Year.

“Prior to the first draft of the budget, our department heads and elected officials had a complete understanding of the tough time of where we were and what that reality meant,” said County Judge David Sweet. “There was tremendous value in every one of the meetings we had, and everyone was fully invested in the process this year. I think this adopted budget is something of which we can all be really proud.”
