Rockwall Police Department investigates shooting

ROCKWALL, TX (Oct. 31, 2020) At approximately 11:13 p.m. Friday, October 30, 2020, the Rockwall Police Department responded to the 400 Block of Tubbs Road in reference to a shooting.

Officers arrived on scene to discover that a Hispanic male in his 20s had suffered a gunshot wound. An officer and a sergeant with the Rockwall Police Department quickly located an individual matching the description of the suspect walking in the 600 Block of Bass Road.

As the officers were attempting to detain the suspect, a struggle ensued. The suspect then accessed a handgun and turned it on himself and fired a round. The round exited the suspect and struck the Rockwall Sergeant in the chest. The Sergeant was wearing a ballistic vest and suffered only minor injuries. Officers on scene began administering first aid to the suspect and called for an ambulance. The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The name of the involved parties are being withheld at this time pending further investigation. The Texas Rangers are assisting with the investigation.
