ROCKWALL, TX – November 24, 2020 — The J.E.R. Chilton YMCA at Rockwall and Meals on Wheels Senior Services of Rockwall County (MOWSS) provided groceries for local homebound seniors in need to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal this week. The Rockwall Y partnered with MOWSS to identify elderly clients in the area who might not otherwise have what they need to enjoy a meal on Thanksgiving Day.
The Y called on the community for help in gathering the groceries with a Giving Tree put up in their lobby. The tree invited folks to pick out a turkey ornament, bring it to one of the Y’s Membership Service Representatives, and then return the requested grocery items to the Y for distribution. This afternoon the Y helped MOWSS load up bags and boxes full of groceries containing all the fixings for a Thanksgiving meal – frozen turkeys, boxed stuffing, sweet potatoes, canned goods, cranberries, pies and more! MOWSS then delivered the groceries to the respective seniors.
“This type of partnership is a great example of two amazing organizations coming together to make a difference in the lives of those we serve in our community,” said J.E.R. Chilton YMCA at Rockwall Executive Director Clint Elliott. “We see this as a great way to give thanks this holiday season by offering aid to those that need it the most. We’ve been overwhelmed by the support of our membership and community as a whole in this endeavor.”
