ROCKWALL, TX – February 20, 2021 – It has been such a testimony of the strength and compassion of our community to see neighbors helping neighbors during this unprecedented weather event. Helping Hands of Rockwall County wanted to update the community on the emergency operations that they’ve been involved in over this past week.
Helping Hands has continued conducting assessments and providing financial assistance via phone and email during the 5 days that its physical locations have been closed. The facility also incurred a pipe break. In cooperation with the Rockwall County Office of Emergency Management, food and blankets were delivered to the local warming stations. They also coordinated with local law enforcement to get portable heaters into long term care facilities and homes that were without heat. They remained in contact with local school districts to provide a quick response if students and their families experienced difficulties. They continued to supply local law enforcement with emergency hotel assistance and food gift cards for those experiencing displacement from their homes.
Now that the roads are beginning to clear, Helping Hands is opening its Food Pantry today (Saturday, Feb. 20), between noon and 4 p.m. to offer prepackaged emergency food bags to those living in Rockwall County and the 75189 ZIP code area to those experiencing an urgent need.
This crisis will continue into the coming weeks as larger than normal utility bills begin to arrive, damage assessments are completed, and the loss of income begins to press in on those they serve. If you can help support these disaster relief efforts, please go online to RockwallHelpingHands.com to make a financial donation and/or be watching the social media page for Food Pantry and other needs. Keep these families in your thoughts and prayers.
Our print edition is delivered free to ~15,500 homes in Rockwall and Heath, TX.
