ROCKWALL, TX – March 29, 2021 – Beginning April 6, 2021, The Rockwall County Historical Foundation will present “Signers of the Texas Declaration of Independence,” an exhibition by Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
On the frozen morning of March 1, 1836, forty-four men shivered in an unfinished house in the tiny hamlet of Washington, Texas. They and fifteen other men who later joined them, representing all the municipalities in the Mexican province of Texas, declared the territory to be a free and independent republic.
Through twenty panels of photographic images and captions, “Signers of the Texas Declaration of Independence” presents an expanded look at these fifty-nine extraordinary men who brought modern Texas into being.
The exhibition will be available to the public from April 6 to May 16 in the Bailey House at 903 East Washington Street. Exhibit hours are: Tuesday – Friday 1:00pm – 5:00PM and 10:00am – 5:00pm on Saturday. For more information about viewing hours or to arrange group visits, contact the Museum at 972-722-1507.
