Lake Pointe names governing board members, medical staff officers

(Rowlett) Feb. 1, 2012 – Lake Pointe Medical Center recently announced the members of its governing board and medical staff officers for 2012.

The governing board consists of corporate representatives, physicians on the hospital’s medical staff and representatives from the community. The board is responsible for the oversight of the medical staff, quality of the professional services and the general business affairs of the hospital.

The hospital governing board members for 2012 are:

Larry Lott is currently the Executive Director of the Royse City Economic Development Corporation. He began his career as an auditor with the U.S. General Accounting Office, later transferring to the Department of Energy as an audit manager. He spent the last 18 years of his career with KPMG, an accounting/consulting firm.

Most recently, he served as Chairman of the Lake Pointe Medical Center Governing Board in 2011. Lott has served on the governing board since 2008, and has served as Chairman previously in 2008.

His civic and volunteer activities include Royse City Breakfast Rotary, Royse City Chamber of Commerce, and Royse City Main Street Board just to name a few. He and his wife reside in Royse City.

Karen Coughlin is currently Hotel Manager at the Hilton Bella Harbor in Rockwall and has worked in the hospitality industry for over 20 years. She was elected as a Trustee of the Lake Pointe Medical Center Governing Board in late 2010.

Her civic and volunteer involvement includes Soroptimist of Rockwall, Helping Hands, and the Rockwall Heath Basketball and Track Board.

She also serves on the Board of the Rockwall Chamber of Commerce. She and her family reside in Rockwall.

Scott Stephenson, MD, FACC, board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiology, was elected to the Lake Pointe Medical Center Governing Board effective January of 2011. Dr. Stephenson has been a member of the Medical Staff at Lake Pointe Medical Center since 1993 and has been elected as Chairman of the Board for 2012. He previously served as Chairman of the Medical Executive Committee in 2007 and was the Chief of Staff in 2008. He has also served on numerous committees which include: Practitioner Advisory, Nominating, Bylaws, and Credentials Committees.

Dr. Stephenson completed his Medical Degree at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, completed an internship/residency in Internal Medicine at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, completed a fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology.

John Curanovic, MD, board certified in Internal Medicine, was elected to the Lake Pointe Medical Center Governing Board effective January of 2011. Dr. Curanovic has been a member of the Medical Staff at Lake Pointe Medical Center since 2002. He previously served on the Medical Executive Committee as the Chairman of the Medicine Section in 2006. He has also served on the Credentials and Clinical Operations Committees.

Dr. Curanovic received his Medical Degree from Ross University School of Medicine in Portsmouth, Dominica, British West Indies and completed an internship/residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.

Other members of the Lake Pointe Medical Center Governing Board are the following: Tom Casaday, Interim Tenet Senior VP of Central Region Operations; J. Eric Evans, CEO, Lake Pointe Health Network; Becky Speight, CFO, Lake Pointe Health Network; L. Scott Dencklau, DO, Chief of Staff.

The 2012 medical staff officers are:

L. Scott Dencklau, DO, was elected chief of staff. Dr. Dencklau is board certified in emergency medicine and has been a member of the Medical Staff at Lake Pointe Medical Center since 2006. He has served on the Medical Executive Committee since 2011. He also served on the Credentials Committee in 2011.

Dr. Dencklau completed his Medical Degree at Midwestern University, Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in Downers Grove, Illinois, as well as an internship/residency in Transitional Studies/Emergency Medicine at Midwestern University in Downers Grove, Illinois.

Viral Patel, MD, was elected vice-chief of staff. Dr. Patel is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology and has been a member of the Medical Staff at Lake Pointe Medical Center since 2008. He has previously served on the Quality Management and Clinical Operations Committees.

Dr. Patel completed his Medical Degree at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, an internship/residency in Internal Medicine at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, and a fellowship in Gastroenterology at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas.

Danney P. Drewry, DO, was elected secretary/treasurer. Dr. Drewry has been a member of the Medical Staff at Lake Pointe Medical Center since 2009. He previously served on the Clinical Operations Committee in 2010.

Dr. Drewry completed his Medical Degree at Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Iowa and completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Midwestern University – St. James Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in Olympia Fields, Illinois and a residency in Internal Medicine at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois.

Andrew P. Berggren, MD, was appointed chief of medicine. Dr. Berggren is board certified in Cardiovascular Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine and has been a member of the Medical Staff at Lake Pointe Medical Center since 2005. He has served on the Medical Executive Committee since 2009. In 2008, he chaired the Credentials Committee. In 2009, he chaired the Clinical Operations Committee. He also served on the Medical Executive Committee from 2008 through 2011.

Dr. Berggren completed his Medical Degree at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, an internship in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, and a residency in Cardiovascular Disease at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.

Al J. Moore, MD, was appointed chief of surgery. Dr. Moore is board certified in Anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology and has been a member of the Medical Staff at Lake Pointe Medical Center since 1993. He served on the Medical Executive Committee from 2007 to 2011, serving as secretary/treasurer in 2008. He chaired the Quality Management Committee in 2007, and later served on that committee in 2010 and 2011.

Dr. Moore completed his Medical Degree at Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana, an internship in Transitional Studies at Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama, and a residency in Anesthesiology at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, Alabama.
