Dallas Animal Companion Project asks, ‘Who are you thankful for?’

Why not give a shelter cat or dog something to be thankful for this Thanksgiving? Magic, an 8-month-old shepherd mix at Dallas Animal Services, would be grateful to have a forever home.

(Dallas) During the hustle and bustle this Thanksgiving season many of us have special people and pets in our lives for which to be thankful. But what about the lonely dog or cat, a former stray or someone’s pet given up to a local animal shelter because it’s family could no longer care for it?

Those animals would like to be thankful for a new loving home this Thanksgiving! Many local shelters are ‘full’ of hundreds of wonderful animals just waiting for adoption.

Many local animal shelters have devoted employees and volunteers who care for the shelter animals no matter what day it is, holiday or not.

The Dallas Companion Animal Project wants to remind everyone to take a moment this Thanksgiving season to not only show their thanks to their local animal shelter and rescue organization for their tireless efforts to save animals but to always consider adopting an animal first!

This Thanksgiving weekend, consider dropping a ‘thankful’ donation to your local animal shelter. Gently used, clean blankets, soft rugs and towels will make any furry feline or loyal canine a happy camper. And while you are there, why not adopt a new member of the family?

Background

Dallas Companion Animal Project was originally conceived by the City of Dallas Animal Shelter Commission in June 2011. Appointed an official task force by the City of Dallas in July 2011, the Dallas Companion Animal Project supports all local animal shelters and groups who provide a tangible example of humane ethics and compassion for all living creatures.

Our mission: Guide the community toward increasing programs that end the killing of adoptable homeless animals.

Our Vision: A city where the government, business and non-profit sectors recognize that the welfare of companion animals is a quality-of-life issue affecting everyone, worthy of everyone’s investment.

Task force members include representatives from the City of Dallas Animal Services, Companions for Life, SPCA of Texas, Metroplex Animal Coalition, Dallas Animal Advocates, Greyhound Adoption League of Texas, Animal Rescue of Texas, Feral Friends Community Cat Alliance, Mazie’s Mission, Little Forrest Hills Animal Alert, and retired law enforcement.
