Heritage Brass Band Fife, Drum Corps to perform for seniors

(Garland) The Heritage Brass Band, a Dallas-area volunteer reenactment band, will perform at a special Veteran’s Day Senior Social Hour program at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11 at Central Library, located at 625 Austin St. in downtown Garland.

The Heritage Brass Band specializes in the preservation and performance of military and popular music from the Civil War and Second World War periods. The Fife & Drum Corps. is composed of two band members and conductor Larry Johnson.

The Veteran’s Day program will include a one-hour presentation of Civil War-era field music performed on period-appropriate drums and fifes.  Guests will enjoy “daily duty” compositions like reveille, tattoo, and quicksteps.

The conductor will also discuss the significance of musicians in the Civil War. 

No registration is required, but space is limited. Doors open 30 minutes prior to performance.

Senior Social Hour is sponsored by the Friends of the Library. The free events are open to anyone 55 years of age or older.

The Central Library is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday.
