The City of Heath recently recognized employees for an outstanding performance in 2011.

Among those was Tara Plexico who was named Employee of the Year.

“Tara brings both experience and a can-do attitude to the job, and that means we can count her,” said City Manager Ed Thatcher. “Although she is an accountant, Tara is cross-trained to help us cover positions in the Municipal Court and Customer Service, and we really appreciate that flexibility.”

Tara is equally grateful for her colleagues and the camaraderie shared. “I am truly blessed to work with the others who are here,” she said. “It means a lot to me to receive this award, but none of it would be possible without my fellow co-workers and their support.”

Also recognized for going beyond the boundaries of his job was Jason Staten, the 2011 Public Works Department Employee of the Year.

“Jason shows initiative and commitment every day,” said Randel Dobbs, Public Works director and city engineer. “He always stays with a utilities issue until it is resolved, which often means a lot of evening and weekend hours to ensure good service to our residents. He also invested the time this year to earn his Operator C license, which helps our department tremendously.”

Jason works in the Utilities division and joined the City in 2009.

Chief Terry Garrett congratulates the Department of Public Safety’s 2011 Employee of the Year, Andrew Poindexter.

The Department of Public Safety’s 2011 Employee of the Year was Officer Andrew Poindexter, who has been with the DPS since 2008.

“Andrew is a consistently proficient officer who is always willing to go the extra mile to complete a task or assignment,” said Chief Terry Garrett, director of the DPS Department. “His background and experience with the Coast Guard Reserve is a big advantage and mirrors the job he does here in Heath.”

Kristi Smith was honored as the 2011 Finance/Administration Department Employee of the Year. Kristi joined the City in 2010 and quickly demonstrated professional skills as a Customer Service Representative.

“Kristi handles a wide range of duties from utility billing to booking reservations for ball fields and the community room, said Laurie Mays, director of Finance. “What stands out is how she always treats the public and co-workers with compassion, patience and professionalism.”

The opportunity to honor employees was just one of many highlights in the City of Heath in 2011.
