Lovers Lane UMC hosts event to help feed 130,000 starving kids

Lovers Lane United Methodist Church will host a day of meal packaging from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, benefiting Feed My Starving Children. In 2010, Lovers Lane UMC packaged 107,784 meals that fed South American children. This year, they hope to feed more than 130,000.

This enjoyable service event was so popular last year that more than 500 volunteers of all ages signed up in record time this year, before they were able to offer registration to the general public. Each person or family will work one or more 2-hour shifts to do their part in packaging the 130,000 meals. Many families have opted to utilize this activity as a tool to teach their children about giving back this holiday season.

Lovers Lane UMC, through donations, is covering the cost of food. It takes just 24 cents to feed one child a meal, and 93% of every dollar goes to purchase food (the remainder is donated to the Feed My Starving Children organization). So far, $5,000 of the $32,000 goal has been raised.

Lovers Lane UMC is located at 9200 Inwood Road in Dallas. For more information, visit fmsc.org.
