Senator Jane Nelson to address redistricting, election
Senator Jane Nelson is a businesswoman and a former teacher who represents Senate District 12, encompassing parts of Denton and Tarrant counties. She was elected to the Senate after serving two terms on the State Board of Education. Nelson serves as Chairman of the Senate Health and Human Services, the Senate’s Finance Committee; Senate Nominations Committee; and the Senate Government Organization Committee. She is the second-highest ranking Republican in the Senate. Nelson and her husband, Mike, have five adult children and four grandchildren.

(Frisco) Texas State Senator Jane Nelson will address the Frisco Area Republican Women from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2012 during the group’s 2012 kick-off luncheon at Isabella’s Italian Restaurant in Frisco. The event is open to the public.

Senator Nelson’s keynote speech will provide an update on redistricting and other significant issues brewing at the Texas State Capitol. She will also discuss the upcoming election from her perspective as a State Senator.

Senator Nelson authored several proposals that were approved by the Legislature this session:

  • Authored legislation achieving more than $3 billion in savings in Texas Medicaid
  • Passed a bill enabling Texas join the multi-state Health Care Compact with the goal of opting out of Obamacare
  • Cut the flow of taxpayer dollars to abortion providers
  • Expanded the state’s effort to root out fraud in health and human services
  • Strengthened the state’s stalking law
  • Redesigned the state’s foster care system to help displaced children remain in their home communities
  • Eliminated more than 100 unnecessary or redundant reports by state government
  • Joint authored the state’s new voter ID law
