Lake Pointe Breast Center nationally recognized for excellence

Lake Pointe Breast Center recognized as a Certified Quality Breast Center of Excellence^TM in the National Quality Measures for Breast Centers Program by the National Consortium of Breast Centers.

This distinguished honor represents a commitment by the LPBC to provide the highest level of quality breast health care to patients and our community.

LPBC is only the second facility in Texas to be recognized as a Certified Quality Breast Center of Excellence.

Measuring and comparing quality performance is essential in assessing patient care and allocating resources where improvement is desired. In today’s dynamic health care industry, breast centers are faced with providing quality care while simultaneously keeping costs under control. A center’s staff must not only be familiar with existing standards of care, but must also be aware of new advances in technology. Lake Pointe Breast Center has taken a major step to ensure we provide the best possible quality care to breast patients in our community.

The National Consortium of Breast Centers is proud to recognize Lake Pointe Breast Center as a Certified Quality Breast Center of Excellence^TM in this program. The LPBC continues its commitment to provide the highest quality care to its patients.

Lake Pointe Breast Center provides breast imaging services and education in Forney, Rockwall and Rowlett and is staffed by a Cancer Nurse Navigator. The Lake Pointe Breast Center offers comprehensive breast services including your initial screening and diagnostic digital mammograms; breast ultrasound; biopsies, including stereotactic, ultrasound-guided and MRI-guided biopsies; breast MRI; surgical options, including reconstruction; and can assist with access to medical oncologists and radiation oncologists in our community. The role of a Cancer Nurse Navigator is to:

Counsel women at high-risk for developing breast cancer
Educate you and your loved ones about your individual diagnosis and treatment options
Help you make informed decisions about your treatment and care
Advocate for you during treatment
Coordinate the team of physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals providing your care
Help you with your recovery and rehabilitation plans
Provide moral support and a sympathetic ear
Provide community education on breast health and breast cancer
Facilitate community support programs

The LPBC includes an American Cancer Society resource center, providing information on prevention, diagnosis and treatment options for all types of cancer and includes both print and web-based resources. And to help educate our community about breast cancer, our Cancer Nurse Navigator offers the ‘Breast Health for Life’ community outreach program which promotes prevention and early detection while providing information about risk factors, screening guidelines and breast self examination.

For those women visiting the Breast Center, a Breast Cancer Risk Assessment will be conducted, providing both the 5-year and lifetime risk for developing breast cancer. These risk assessments will also be provided at community events and health fairs in which Lake Pointe participates. Counseling for women at high-risk, including genetic information and referrals to a genetic counselor, is provided through the Breast Center.

With a Center of Excellence facility in their local community, patients can receive quality care closer to home.”

The National Quality Measures of Breast Centers^TM were developed by referencing the Health care Advisory Board’s Clinical Quality Dash Board for breast centers published in the fall of 2004. The National Quality Measures for Breast Centers^TM reflect more than five years of work, which has culminated in the adoption of more than 33 National Quality Indicators^TM.
